There comes a point in every gardener's life when the yearly ritual of planting Gardeners Delight or Moneymaker becomes dull and repetitive,  Knowing that each year we will get the same toms is rather boring.  Well my friends as we do, occassionly, at Harpenden Grove we will attempt the unusual.  Why is it unusual?

Because we do not know if the store tomatoes are from hybrids or not.  If they are then it is going to be a very pleasent suprise as what we will end up growing. This is why it is such a challenge of the unknown.

Jubilee Tomatoes

Sainsbury's had a good-ish range of vine tomatoes.  Some very attractive looking cherry plum ones 'Sundream' with a loverly strong tomato flavour. I say 'tomato' flavour as most bought seem very insipid and not very watery more tough andun-inspiring.  Their flagship vine salad ones was'Jubilee', we found these quite appertising.

We are going to sacrifice half of the 'Jubilee' in search of the seeds and the whole 'Sundream'.

First part of our endeavour is to collect a couple of jars or containers of some description to hold water,  This is a necessary part of this surgical operation.  In the jars fill with water approx half up the jars height.
